Newest Update

Journal entry by Margarita Perez

Hi—

Last week I received confirmation from the liver transplant team that they have approved me for a liver transplant! The last couple of months I have shown the stability I needed to move forward! We are elated with the news!

The new liver transplant date is July 30.

I will have a couple more full chemo rounds and then they will back me off the chemo until I fully off for 3-4 weeks before surgery. Since the LT will be in July, the #2 donor is getting vetted now. She will go through testing this week.

I’m wrapping up a chemo round and this round was much better. A new nausea drug at bedtime helped a lot. I still had nausea but no vomiting.
My body and spirit are tired of chemo, but I know I can get to the finish line.

Do hard things now so I can enjoy life later!
So now we are back in preparation mode for about 4 weeks in Nola for transplant. Part of the preparation is mental getting my mind ready.
When I was younger and would be nervous about talking in front of groups or presenting etc. my mom would tell me to think of the end and visualize success.
That’s how I’m preparing for the transplant. Everyday I walkthrough the surgery day from start in pre op checkin, to going into operating room, to going into the ICU. I visualize and see success “textbook” case— and I see the dr saying she and the donor did great!
This is how I spend my time visualizing success, healing and then coming home.

What I need are prayers:
  • For my donor and the success of her tests this week and prayers of thanksgiving for being willing to give me the gift of life

  • For my June 3 scans— we need them to look like all the rest
  • For my strength to get through these last chemo rounds
  • For our surgery teams that they are able prepare throughly for our surgeries
  • For all those suffering with cancer.

More info coming as we get closer.
