In it to win it!!!!!!

As many of you may already know, Friday (12/7) was an exciting day. I managed to wait until the Merit Board holiday lunch was almost finished before having what I understand was a very disruptive seizure (completely out of the blue) Thank goodness for my wonderful co-workers (including one Marine, an EMT, and a great new friend, Jackie, who took the ambulance ride w/ me) who took wonderful care of me while awaiting the paramedics.

I was, thankfully, taken to the best place around, which is Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where I was met by dear friend Carole, Mom & Dad, and Director Ed (the aforementioned Marine & boss of the Merit Board) Had a bunch of tests (blood, CT Scans, MRI), that found the yet-to-be-definitively determined mass in my brain (which caused the seizure.) Is likely a bleed or brain tumor, but the docs won't know what exactly it is, or what caused it, until they get in there. That surgery is scheduled for tuesday (will not know what time until tomorrow....will update then)

Spent Friday night through Sunday a.m. in the Neuro / Spinal ICU of NWestern, where I was the only patient able to sit up, get out of bed, and/or speak. Should have been transferred to a regular unit yesterday, but no available beds! Was cheered by so many wonderful visits, calls, & texts from family and friends yesterday. Thank you for making my day, and for all the lovely treats!

Best treat of all.....I got to come home today! Met my neurosurgeon this morning, who said I was doing so well on my anti-seizure meds and steroids (for keeping the brain swelling down) that I could stay home until my surgery tuesday. Excellent! So nice to relax at home, take a loooong, hot shower, and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed. But otherwise, I feel absolutely fine for a lady with a possible brain tumor! Thanks for keeping me in your prayers for a successful surgery tuesday, and for my parents (who are amazing) that they keep their sanity. At least this gets Vince out of jury duty! More soon!

Much love,

Meg and the Keating Family

Journal entry by Meg Keating

Dear Friends,
Yesterday morning we lost our dear daughter Meg after a courageous 15 yr battle with brain cancer. She passed peacefully with family members, her hospice team and caregivers, and friends, all by her side. She was truly the joy of our lives.
We are so grateful for the exceptional care and loving compassion of her Northwestern Brain Tumor Team, who sustained her these past 15 yrs. Under their careful attention and her fierce determination of “In it to WIN it”, she lived her life with a generous and joyful heart. She inspired us all. Your dedication and care moved her to become a strong advocate for the Northwestern Brain Tumor Foundation. Time spent on this endeavor was near and dear to her.
We are also so very grateful to each of you:
St Julie’s Parish and Church, all her dear longtime friends, her many devoted work colleagues, her Mother McAuley and Marquette University classmates, and most importantly, her close friends and their families who are also suffering with brain cancers. You have constantly lifted her and loved her throughout all of the difficult times. You were truly her lifeline, and she cherished these friendships.
Meg touched so many people’s lives…her generous and joyful spirit will live within each of us now.
We will be posting Meg’s memorial arrangements soon.
