Mallory’s Story

Site created on November 27, 2022

In 2005, Mallory discovered that she had developed kidney disease. The biopsy at the time was inconclusive, but the suspicion was that it was IGA nephropathy from untreated strep throat.  Through the years her creatinine levels stayed stable with the help of medications (levels between 1.8 and 2.9).  In 2021 another biopsy was performed which also came back as inconclusive as they weren't able to get an adequate sample due to scar tissue. A third biopsy was performed in February of 2022, which confirmed the diagnosis of IGA nephropathy. The most recent testing has shown a decline, in which her creatinine levels were 4.1 and a GFR of 15. The numbers indicated that she is in end stage renal failure. Due to these levels, Mallory will need a kidney transplant and possible dialysis until she has a donor match. As of now she will be able to wait until her January appointment to begin any treatment.  Until then she is completing the necessary testing and paperwork to ensure she has everything ready in case a donor kidney becomes available.

We want to thank you for the prayers as she faces the next steps in her kidney disease journey. This journey has been long for Mallory, but we continue to remember that God is in control, and we seek comfort and strength from Him and His word.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

Friends and Family,

We continue to praise God for a successful kidney transplant for Mallory!!! What a huge answered prayer that everything went so smoothly. She had her surgery on the 10th and she has been recovering in the hospital. She is recovering nicely, although it has been quite uncomfortable for her. Today is the first day she has been able to walk the halls with some assistance and practice some stairs. Her doctors think she should be ready to go home tomorrow--and Mal is ready! She's looking forward to continuing her recovery process in the comfort of her own home.

A day after surgery, she had a special visit from her donor, Megan (along with her mom and husband). What an incredible moment--many tears shed! We are blown away on how generous her donor was to give such an amazing lifesaving gift! We're forever grateful to her! She is also recovering nicely from surgery and was released from the hospital a couple days post-surgery.

The new kidney is working beautifully! Her new creatinine level is 1.03 which puts her in normal and healthy range!!! Praise God! To put it into perspective, her level before surgery was 5.8. She will continue to take anti-rejection medication to help her body accept the new kidney.

We are still so mind blown on how smoothly everything went. Through this entire process, Mallory never needed dialysis. Her numbers remained just high enough to where she didn't need it. God is so faithful. We are incredibly thankful for the prayers and support that she has received through her kidney disease journey leading up to this point. What a blessing to have such an amazing support system surrounding her! THANK YOU!!!

Please continue to pray for her as she has a long road of recovery ahead. We will continue to post updates as needed.

Sincerely,
Mallory's Family
