Sign In to Show Your SupportLast week we had our 30-day family meeting at QLI. Mom was present for this meeting and I think she was happy to hear all her therapists gush about her progress. Basically, mom is a rockstar.
A couple weeks ago she had her wheelchair taken away from her. You can imaging how this went over…not well. She was not a happy camper that week, but she accepted it faster than I thought she would. We all saw this as a win because this means her therapists believe she no longer needs it. She has been walking to all her sessions with her walker. She is still a little apprehensive about walking outside because of the uneven ground, sidewalks, etc. The morning of the meeting she had actually walked 800ft without a walker (therapists keep a hand on the gait belt). This is amazing! The next day she did 2800 ft!! The thought is that by the time she goes home she will not need assistance in walking, or at least very little.
This past week they changed out her hospital bed to a regular bed. She has not had any issues with this transition at all.
She is scheduled to have her IVC filter removed on May 30th. This is an outpatient procedure and she will be back at QLI that same day. She’s a little nervous about this. She has half-joked about picking her own anesthesia team. So if any of you have privileges at Methodist Hospital, let us know!
As for discharge home, they are aiming for mid-June. This seems just around the corner. It may change the closer we get to it and depending on her progress in that time. We continue to be so very proud of her hard work!
