We  “lost” our health insurance last year due to middle-of-the-year changes. I have recently restarted a chemotherapy drug that has been working for my type of cancers, even though it wasn’t originally researched in that way. I found out that it costs $13,000 per dose. Plus we have to pay $400 per administration of it intravenously. Oncology insists you pay it upfront before they can give it to you.  I find it shocking how much cancer care costs!

Additionally, because I had blood clots in my legs last year, I need to be on a blood thinner for life.  Eliquis is the one they recommend and that costs from $400-1000 even with insurance!   How do people survive without insurance?  Why is our healthcare system so messed up?  Why can I get hair regrowth medicine or erectile dysfunction medicine cheaper and more easily?  Yes, I am complaining... but I am also grateful that I've been able to find ways to use the system or substitute alternative and natural treatments.  I guess the point of my rant is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  Take care of your health naturally now instead of relying on a broken conventional system later.
