Lisa’s Story

Hello!
Thank you to ALL of you who have checked in to see how Im doing! It does make a huge daily difference knowing so many beautiful prayers and well wishes are being said on my behalf.
This journey I have been on has been humbling to say the least. When I checked into Essentia hospital 16 days ago I never figured just HOW MUCH different this surgery and rehab would be than the two I had just went through in July and three weeks later in August. Many of you are not aware of exactly what I've am up against.....so I will try to tell my story as concise as possible. ( remember tge stylist in me who loves to talk..lol).
My body has been fighting alot of pain, Inflammation and loss of full mobility for the past 7 months. My PT Morgan Gunderson and I worked so hard together three times a week and we both ALWAYS felt something significant was not quite right with my total right knee replacement I received at the end of July. It failed to truly respond effectively to any and all treatments along with my hard work and determination to heal. At the beginning of March we agreed that we had exhausted all avenues for healing and she suggested I get another opinion, particularly Dr. Matthys, to evaluate my knee and overall fatigue, extreme swelling and pain, which by then, was not just in my knee. After performing an aspiration on my knee and specific labs they revealed our darkest suspicions. During this entire time frame, while I was fully committed to my recovery, my body was desperately fighting to heal while two different strains of Staph infection, one being rare had encapsulated my prosthetic and started on the bone. Without removing the entire prosthetic and all parts that had been used in the initial two surgeries I would have continued to have diminished use on my leg and increasing pain along with severely affecting my overall health.Dr. Matthys performed an explant procedure on March 28th....I'll stop here for now and will continue on once I am discharged and back home tomorrow.... hugs and much love pouring out to each and every one of you💞
to be continued.... ❤

Journal entry by Lisa McDonald

Good morning!
I am waiting for my Physical Therapist to come this morning. It's been a rough few days with my right foot so swollen I can't apply weight to it. Anxious to get it under control. Having the double whammy on same leg has been tough and it certainly wears me out. I love to be mobile and doing things...like getting back to working at JUNKYARD and taking care of my clients!
I am a caregiver at heart and having the tables turned on me has been difficult & eye opening.
I know we all have our own journey to navigate....I wasn't prepared emotionally for this last surgery and rehabilitation. This journey started just before my dear sweet Mom passed away unexpectedly last April..
I had some setbacks so surgery was postponed until end of July....3 more surgeries since and hospitalization for 3 weeks this past April. So.e days it feels like I struggle just to tread water and on my good days I accomplish enough to full my basket.
Living alone with these hurdles requires alot of praying & positive self talk to quell the tears and negative voices saying it seems ill never get better.... our bodies are complex and resilient but our brains....holy cow..you truly have to be aware of your MINDSET. 5 and a half years ago I quit smoking cold turkey. It was ALL a mental game...just don't give in!!
With my recovery now my MINDSET is a bit warbled but I know I am strong and have more willpower than most when I set my mind to something. I hope YOU are having a positive mindset today to accomplish whatever you set your mind to!!
