Laura’s Story

Site created on May 28, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

About half a year ago, Laura was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Since then, she underwent chemotherapy and radiation at the Mayo clinic. On Thursday,  May 30, she had a procedure to remove a portion of her esophagus. We expect her to remain in the hospital for about a week before coming home. The next sixth months or so will be spent recovering. Laura looks forward to hanging out with the grand kids, taking Ernie to the dog park, doing some gardening and eating some real food. Please check back here for updates or to provide support and words of hope and encouragement.

Journal entry by Joshua Tanz

About a week ago, my mom went to the Mayo clinic in Rochester for some followup labs and imaging studies after last summer's surgery. Over the past couple of weeks she has been experiencing some GI issues, so they ended up admitting her. Last Tuesday she had a procedure in which the surgeon identified that the previous cancer had returned as a new tumor in her abdominal area. This new tumor has since been removed and my parents are now back home. My mom will be resting and recovering for the next few weeks and does not plan on undergoing additional treatment at this time.
The best way to reach my parents is by text message or posting to this CaringBridge site. Your friendship and support have been amazing during this difficult time.

Love,
Joshua
