Laura’s Story

Site created on May 21, 2018

On May 19th at around 6:30 pm, Laura was involved in a serious car accident. Her car swerved left, crossed the median, and was struck on the right side by an oncoming car. Witnesses stated that it appeared that she was slumped forward and unconcious jut prior to the crash. The cause of this is still unknown. Laura was unconscious when the EMTs arrived on scene, and was transferred to Wake Med ER.

Laura is currently in the Neuro ICU, so visiting is not recommended at this time. Fresh flowers are also not allowed in the ICU. Once she is moved to a location where visiting is appropriate, we will let you know.

She is still unconscious and only slightly reactive to stimulation. Her vitals are strong, and tests show that she does not have an aneurysm or any signs of a stroke. We are still trying to determine if she was unconscious prior to the accident, and if so, what the cause of that would have been.

Journal entry by David Adams

We are planning to have a celebration of Laura's life on the afternoon of July 14th in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our plan is to have a street party on Thayer Drive, which will give us plenty of space for the event. We will have some room for out-of-town guests to stay, so contact me directly if you would like to discuss this option.

Feel free to suggest any ideas you have for the party itself. Something that I think would be fun (and Laura would appreciate) is to have an unusual foods and drinks table. Laura was an adventurous eater, so I would like to have a table with interesting items like durian, Maramite, Peruvian nut clusters, dubbel zout licorice, and any other food adventures that remind people of Laura. To wash this all down, we'll have caipirinhas, civet coffee, and some proper Absinthe if I can find it. This of course will be in addition to all the normal foods and drinks.
