Kim’s Story

Site created on January 31, 2024

First, a little background on Kim and her new journey. She was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Prior to this, she had minor symptoms that eventually lead the doctors to this shocking diagnosis. In addition to the pancreas, the cancer has metastasized to both her liver and lungs. She and her team are wasting no time and have already begun fighting this disease and looking into trials.

She began treatment almost immediately and has undergone her first round of chemotherapy. For Kim, each round of treatment will include a concoction of three separate chemo drugs. The treatments will continue every couple of weeks as the doctors track her progress. Kim is a fighter!! If you know her, you know that she is attacking this with all her positivity, energy, tenacity, and faith.

Despite this diagnosis, Kim chooses to: LOVE life… stay POSITIVE… and FIGHT... this is WAR!!

We ask our prayer warriors to continue to keep Kim and her family in your thoughts and prayers, as we fully engage in Kim’s Campaign. We are blessed to have and grateful for her exponentially growing team.

As we have more information to share, we will update this site whenever possible. We appreciate your prayers, love, support, and words of hope & encouragement!

Journal entry by Todd McDonald

Last week, we traveled to Houston (THANK YOU very much to our West Springfield Spartan friends who welcomed us with open arms, Texas-sized hospitality, a fun walk down memory lane, and way too many frozen margaritas!) to visit the world-class facilities and experts at MD Anderson.  We were both extremely impressed with the entire operation there. We will be heading back there for future scans and look forward to working with them as we navigate Kim's treatment.

For those that don't know: Greg has moved back home (and is working remotely) to help support us through this journey. He was able to meet Zeus yesterday! It is wonderful to be able to celebrate his 24th birthday today with him and his girlfriend, Jenny, who is here visiting.

We are happy to report that Round 6 is underway.  Kim's platelets continue to be a perplexing challenge. The doctors have decided that the platelet-stimulating shots will now be administered weekly. The levels the past two rounds have been less than optimal but good enough for treatment to be administered. She continues to amaze the medical staff (and everyone else she encounters along this journey) with her positive attitude and determination.
