Kathy’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On January 30, 2020 Kathy underwent a successful lumpectomy for breast cancer. The treatment plan going forward was for four chemotherapy treatments to be followed by 15 radiation treatments. Kathy’s first treatment was March 20th. By the end of the fourth chemo treatment on May 22nd she was beginning to have problems with her stomach. An ultrasound was ordered by her doctor thinking it could be a gall bladder problem. When the gall bladder was ruled out as the problem a CT scan was set up asap. That scan showed multiple lesions on her liver. A liver biopsy followed on July 1st and confirmed on July 7th that it was Pancreatic cancer with only one spot actually on her pancreas. This cancer was in no way related to the breast cancer.  Kathy’s oncologist, Dr. Chism, immediately went to work to get a new chemotherapy treatment approved and started on July 8th. All radiation treatments for the breast cancer were cancelled. On July 27th,  we made a trip to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville for a second opinion. Dr. Dana Cardin confirmed that the treatment she was getting was the right course at this time.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Dale Stokes

I don’t know why I decided to go back to this Caring Bridge site this evening and look back over my posts and all the comments. It usually makes it harder for me when I relive the events of this year. But I am seeing it in a new way as I read your comments that show so much compassion and love. Kathy used to say “everybody loves Dale and they just tolerate me”. Although I knew it was a tongue in cheek comment (mostly), it would bother me to even think there was an ounce of truth to that statement and I would assure her that she was so loved. If there was ever any doubt how loved she was, take some time and read the comments on my posts! She was loved so much and that puts a smile on my face.

Thank you for your continued prayers for me and my family as we prepare for the upcoming holidays without our wife, mother, and Grammy.
