Karen’s Story

Site created on February 7, 2019

Welcome to Karen's "Duck Cancer" website. We are using this site to keep family and friends updated on Karen's health and treatment. Come back regularly to this Caring Bridge website to get updates on Karen's progress. You can also register on this site to receive email notifications about updates.

Many of you will be happy to know that there is now a Zazzle site setup for the sale of Duck Cancer (*stupid autocorrect) paraphernalia, including tee-shirts, mugs, tote bags, cards, and even stickers. Check it out at https://www.zazzle.com/duck_cancer/products.

Though cancer is never easy, the support of friends and family can reduce some of the burden. To that end, a couple of Karen's former parishioners have created a GoFundMe page to ease some of the financial strain that inevitably accompanies any such medical crisis. https://www.gofundme.com/supporting-karen-mooney-amp-pam-rumancik So, if you have a few bucks and want to climb aboard the “Whaaat? You’ve got cancer, a $5,000 deductible and a broken furnace??!!” fundraising train, you are more than welcome to contribute! After all, crowdsourcing is a community effort, and the bigger the community the more money we can collect without anyone having to give more than they can afford.

OYI I have been meaning to post this for about 2 weeks... chemo brain is REAL

Hello good people - well life has been, well life. Pam and I just return from a total blow out week with UU's in the ozarks (seeing beauty every day makes one ever grateful). Along with lakes, trees and hills there was no cell phone service... wifi (sometimes) but really basically disconnected for a week - YEAH (yes it still happens - the real world waits and calls and waits some more).

The great news I AM DONE WITH CHEMO. Cue bands playing in the background. I had my last dose (a triple whammy) about 3 weeks ago. I have a doc appoint. next week to find out what other fun stuff may be planned but I am done (yes done) with killer sauce.
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good bye
No more to roam killing my cells at night
(and during the day)
HA -
Gained - brain fog, well at least I have an excuse for the many rooms in my home that seem to act like thought traps. (Really why did I .... and who was that person... and did I make a plan for today...)Lost - my hair completely so if anyone is an artist and wants some practice with painting on odd shapes let me know.
Lost - feeling in my hands and feet - the web says it is most likely to come back.

Knowing you will live for a while longer - priceless.

Thanks to everyone that has lit candles, sent thoughts, offered healing, written poetry, painted cards, prayed, smiled, danced and yes even sang. None of us is alone in all of this if we can open our lives and hearts.
