Journal entry by Monica Hansen

Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of Josh's bone marrow transplant! Wow, what a day to celebrate this priceless gift that was given to Josh and saved his life. I'm so grateful that 2023 was a better year than 2022, and hopeful that 2024 will be as well. This journey has left some deep emotional scars, but I will do my best to focus on the blessings because they are everywhere. I think back and totally agree that ignorance is bliss when it comes to cancer. However, I need to take that knowledge and use it for something positive and continue to praise the Lord for Josh's healing.

So on to the results from the bone marrow biopsy from Friday. All results came back and everything looked great! No signs of leukemia and his cells are around 95% donor. Dr. K was very happy with the results. I cried tears of joy. Thank you Lord!

The only kicker was that Josh tested positive for COVID the evening of his bone marrow biopsy. Thankfully his symptoms have been mild, mostly just cold like symptoms, but because he is still considered immunocompromised, he needs to isolate a little longer. He's doing pretty good, but it sure is tough on his old mom who wants to spend more time with him. LOL! It's hard not being able to hug on him. Since he tested positive for COVID, all his other 1 year post transplant appointments scheduled this week were canceled and rescheduled for next week. Thankfully the rest of us continue to stay healthy.

So during this time of isolating, he is working on ACT prep and college scholarship applications. We are so excited for his future and being able to do these "normal" things. I'm so thankful that once he heads off to college, the U of MN Twin Cities is just about an hour away. It gives me peace having him closer.

Thanks again for all your prayers for Josh's health and for favorable results. We appreciate each and every one of your prayers and thoughts.
