Josh has a surgery date! 🎉 He will be going back to Dell Seton on May 21st to have his newly constructed bone flap reattached to his skull. Josh’s neurosurgeon, who originally saved his life, will be assisting with a plastic surgeon in this 3-4 hour surgery. They estimate a 4-7 day hospital stay. Kathy is flying in for a few weeks to help us out during this time.
Last week Josh received Botox, a neurotoxin, in his right arm and leg. He has some muscle spasticity/tone that is interfering with his mobility, so these injections help block the signals from his brain in the areas where he is most affected. This lasts for about 3 months, giving him an opportunity to build up strength and flexibility in the surrounding muscles.
In his latest outpatient treatment meeting, we heard about all of the progress Josh has made in PT, OT, Speech and Education. His numerical fluency is improving and he can both write and say the answers to basic addition facts. His repetition and spontaneous speech is becoming stronger. He’s able to produce sounds and multi syllabic words with the correct pronunciation. His balance has continued to strenthen and he’s continuing to practice walking with less and less support. His right arm is also initiating new movement. We are all so proud of Josh’s hard work and positive attitude! 💪🏼
