Big news!
We saw the surgical oncologist again today to discuss the results of the sigmoidoscopy, and to talk about the plan moving forward.
The results were good! The tumor responded well to the shrinkage, confirming what was seen on the imaging, and even though this appointment was delayed due to stupid insurance issues it doesn't seem like the delay resulted in any of it growing back!
Now on to the next (and hopefully last!) steps of this journey. First, Jordan needs to meet with an OBGYN and a plastic surgeon with USC medicine, to discuss the impact the surgery will have on the nether regions and how reconstructing it will work. Next, all three doctors will find a day they can all get together to slice her open, yank all the remaining cancer out, and rebuild the tissues down there. All this will, hopefully, happen in about a months time.
After that, if it all goes to plan, Jordan is going to be CANCER FREE!!!
As for the rest of the impact, she will need to stay for about a week in the hospital following surgery, and then about a month of bed rest at home. One major downside is that she will need to be using a colostomy bag from now on; the surgery is going to result in the complete removal of her sphincter. But hey, if one asshole is the price to pay for a cure, then pay we will.
Ultimate, this is good news! I was terrified going into this appointment that cancer may have spread in the meantime, or that the results didn't look as good as they'd hoped. Knowing that, with one small sacrifice, she will be able to have the cancer gone is a huge weight lifted off of me.
We will continue to keep y'all updated as things go along!
And as always, here is the GoFundMe, if anyone wants to help us with payments for the surgery and while I have to take time off work: https://gofund.me/f0bc5035
