Hello friends and family,

Lots of news the past few days.

On Tuesday I got the call telling me they had a date for surgery, as long as it worked for me. My surgery date is set for Friday, July 19th. Leading up to that I have to see my primary doctor to get surgery clearance as well as one more PET-CT scan and MRI. On July 8th I have a phone call with the anesthesiologist and on July 12th I have a ostomy bag care class.

We met with the gynecological oncologist yesterday and after talking with her we have some more decisions to make. Since the radiation really affected my uterus and ovaries they haven't been producing the proper amount of hormones which has resulted in premenopausal symptoms. To remedy this she has prescribed hormone therapy for me. The big decision comes in to play here. As of right now there is the option of having a hysterectomy to significantly reduce the chance of cancer showing up in the cervix, uterus, and ovaries as well as breast cancer due to the hormone therapy. The choice of this could change based on the PET-CT/MRI or during surgery. However, right now I'm kind of leaning towards having it done but it's only been one day so I still have time to think about it.

As of now, recovery still looks like it'll be about a week in the hospital and then roughly a month of bed rest at home. We'll see how all these extra aspects of surgery will play into my recovery.

John will be applying for a leave of absence where he should be able to still receive some of his pay. Even if this pay were to be approved there will still be parts of his paycheck that won't be covered. Thankfully I have a meeting with a social/case worker for an assessment of needs and he might be able to point us in the direction of financial help.
