Jon’s Story

Site created on March 27, 2023

Early in the morning on March 20th, my dad went to the Emergency room after being sick on and off for a few weeks. Around 6 in the morning, doctors informed him that the CT scans appeared to look like cancer. After a few days of waiting, a liver biopsy confirmed stage 4 colon cancer. This news has absolutely turned our lives upside down. Our hope is to use this site to give updates and insight into our journey as a family through this. We believe that God is in control and we are trusting him through this process. Exodus 17:11-13 says " 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword."  As I shared with some of our family and friends we believe this community of prayer warriors are lifting us up as we fight this battle. Over the coming months, I know my family will grow tired and worn down but I know this group will help my dad hold up his arms in this battle with cancer so he can walk away as a victor. Thank you for your prayers. We trust God and His plan. We know that He holds my dad in his hands and loves my dad more than we ever could. Keep praying for us each day on this journey and find our latest updates here.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jessica Rounsavall

Good morning everyone,

Tomorrow at 1:45 my dad has chemo so I wanted to hop on here and give a quick update. The past few weeks have flown by! As many of you know my dad is still working full time so many days he is completely exhausted by the end of the day. He powers through work all week long and then goes in for chemo every other Friday. On top of all of that my dad is still visiting people who were recently diagnosed with cancer and doing odd jobs to help out people when he can. It is so evident that the Lord continues to strengthen my dad. As I shared last time my dad got a pretty good report from his doctor a few weeks ago. However, there were some abnormalities with his appendix. Please be praying that whatever it was would go away. Our fear is that if my dad did have to have his appendix removed he would have to pause chemo. We are grateful that chemo has been working really well and we are just praying that he can continue making progress with maintenance chemo for as long as possible. We have some fun things coming up in the next few weeks! My sister-in-law, Jamie, is full term with the second grand baby! Baby Eden could be here any day! We can't wait to meet this beautiful gift from God. Also, Jason and Madison are in full planning mode for their wedding in September! We are excited to celebrate them in just a few short months. In July we are planning a trip to celebrate my grandma's 80 birthday and my mom's 50th in Ireland! Most likely my parents, Jordyn, Jason, Hadley and I will all be going. All that being said we are looking forward to some really fun moments this summer. We love the time that we get together as a family! Also, we will be hosting a worship prayer night  in honor of our friend Duane June 2! We are looking forward to praising Jesus and praying for the Sparks family. We are so grateful for the community that we have and the people that have prayed fervently for us and our friends. We love you all and can't thank you enough for your prayers!

Here is a prayer schedule for tomorrow

1:45- Pray that the chemo wouldn't make my dad sick and that he would feel good!
2:45- Pray that my dad would have opportunities to share the hope of Jesus with people he encounters at work and in the infusion center.
3:45- There are many people we know of that our battling with cancer right now. Some people may have months to live and others we aren't sure. While I can't share every name we would love if you would pray that we can support them well and encourage them on this journey. My dad understands this journey better than we do but pray that we would be able to support the care givers in these families as well.
4:45- Pray for complete healing for my dad! We know it is possible and we want to keep fervently praying for this! Our God is powerful and can absolutely heal my dad and the people that have cancer around us!
5:45- Pray that my dad would not grow weary! Pray that he will continue to be strengthened each day!

We love you all! Thank you for praying!

This is the day the Lord has made we will (continue to) rejoice and be glad in it!

Sincerely,
Jessica Rounsavall
