Journal entry by Caitlin Keller —
It was a nice few days of no/low fevers. But his temp suddenly hit the 103's again, and his heart rate is back up. CRP is back up. It's disheartening. And honestly nerve wracking. Because no one on our team can tell us what will happen when he starts chemo. Either it'll be great, he'll get the transplant, and these fevers will suddenly self-correct. Or. Not-so-great things like a viral reactivation or highly complicated route through chemo/conditioning.
Dr Read does feel strongly that because of the timing of starting/stopping an antifungal (amphothericin) that this is indeed stemming from fungal/mold - which is what has resonated with Vince and I since the get go. Still waiting on Dr Read and our pediatrician to connect, which hopefully will happen today. Re-starting the Ampho today, and trialing/bridging to a new anti-fungal that isn’t as hard on Jonah’s kidneys. (Since starting this med, Jonah has had to be connected to saline/extra potassium because of how hard this med is on the kidneys). But, we need to make sure the new anti-fungal still covers whatever is hiding in his body.
Today Jonah is NPO again for another procedure. Another round of sedation, lymph node biopsy, and an opthamology assessment to see if he has fungus/mold in his eyes (crazy).
Thank you for being here 💚
