Welcome to our Jimbirdwmaple CaringBridge website. We decided to add wmaple to dad’s name to distinguish him from other possible Jim Birds. “w” stands for “West” and Maple. West Maple was the Birmingham public school where he taught middle school social studies for many years. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!!

Thank you all for your support, prayers and wonderful comments about my dad. He died yesterday at 2pm. Mark video-chatted with my dad and I was able to be with him in the final 24 hours thanks to Spectrum Hospice and their amazing staff (as well as PPE supply). 

I have no idea what arrangements will be for the funeral—but I will post something here when I know more.
