Mr. Bird taught me that my voice mattered and he made history and current events a great learning experience. I am sorry to hear he has passed. He was my favorite teacher and the reason I looked forward to school every day. I grew up to be a psychiatrist in large part because of his teaching that words matter. I am so sorry for your loss.

He was my favorite teacher. Such enthusiasm and humor made his class fun. He made me believe I had talent & could be successful. I always wanted to thank him for that & let him know I had a successful career with the American Cancer Society.

Your dad was always such a pleasure to talk with, I enjoyed our conversations on women’s rights and human rights. He will be missed.

Your dad was an outstanding teacher for such a challenging age group ! He taught so much more than curriculum .... I have annoyingly quoted him many times : “truly vital and interesting people are never bored” ! He touched more lives than even he knew ! Best wishes to you and your family in this difficult time .

Mr. Bird was the most intelligent and interesting teacher I had at West Maple Junior High. I loved his class.

Jim was so good to me, so helpful, and understanding. I will so miss being able to talk with him, on the telephone, when not in person. I know God will comfort him and thank him for his devoted life.

Kathy and Mark, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was clearly one of the quietly great people who make us all richer in spirit. And - good parents are irreplaceable. Dana joins me in expressing deepest sympathy and prayers for Christ's sweet and enduring peace. Carol H-M, Moline, IL
