On Wednesday February 22 Jim fell 18 feet on to a concrete floor. He landed arms and hands first, then his face and head. He was unconscious for several minutes but thanks to the actions of the people he was with and the quick arrival of EMS he made it to the trauma unit at Jefferson Torresdale. He was conscious on arrival and was able to speak with the assessment team, his injuries were numerous and severe.
In the 5 days since then he has made incredible progress. That said, the road ahead seems like a long journey. He has been lucky because the only surgery so far that must be done is on both of his wrists, they actually save his life by breaking the fall so he didn’t land directly on his face and head.
I’ll post updates on our progress as I have time, please know the love we have been shown is something I’ve never experienced, I’ll do my best to pay that forward.

Journal entry by Anne Barnett

One year ago today you all joined Jim and I on an incredibly tough journey.  He’s made such a miraculous recovery sometimes it’s hard to think about how far we’ve come.

You all know the details of the accident and how bad it was.

Today we’re focused on all the positive things that have happened since that fateful morning.

The doctors, surgeons and physical therapists performed miracles on Jim’s shattered wrists.  All the metal is out, he’s done with PT and with the exception of arthritis (which is a roofers affliction) his wrist mobility is awesome.

The injuries he sustained are all but gone.  The Tramic Brain Injury is still a work in progress but he’s working so hard and is still getting better.

He is happy to be alive, his out look on life is decidedly more positive and tolerant.  We are both very happy and while we still have a little way to go, we are absolutely grateful for everyone who is reading this!!

We head to Florida for a little getaway next week, and are so lucky to have our little piece of heaven in Wellsboro.

Thank you again to all of you, please keep in touch and let us know if there’s anything WE can do for you!

Love, Anne and Jim
