I’m am still getting my infusions every 3 weeks of Herceptin and Perjeta until I hit the 1 year mark. Today they added Zometa which I will have once every 6 months given along with my other 2 infusions. It makes your bones strong so they don’t become weak from the drugs I’m on and also prevents the cancer from going into my bones. At my bone scan a few weeks ago they found I have Osteopenia if the spine so this will help with that. I’ve heard the first 3-5 days of side effects are rough but I’m up for it.
I get an echocardiogram every 5-6 weeks and my heart is doing pretty well. It’s just showing a small sign of stress but nothing to worry over I’ve been told.
Next week I start a daily pill called Anastrozole. I will be on it for 5-10 years. It is a hormone based chemotherapy drug used to decrease the amount of estrogen my body makes which in turn helps prevent the cancer from returning. I also have to have a shot in my abdomen every 4 weeks called Goserelin, that will shut down the estrogen my ovaries are producing until I can get them removed this fall.
On August 3rd I have my Double Mastectomy. I am excited to get that over with.
All in all I am remaining positive and upbeat. I’ve had my days of being scared and then I move on. There is so much ahead of me but I know my Drs are incredible and I’m on the best path possible. I just have to take one day at a time and listen to my body. When I feel good and strong I’m up and doing things. Then I’m usually exhausted and my joints get sore but each day is the beginning of a new one and I’m determined to enjoy each moment. Even if I’m moving like an old woman at times! Other days I feel like before I became sick!
I hope everyone has been well and making it through this crazy time in our lives.
Cheers to this sunshine and beautiful weather!
Love Always,
Jenny
