Journal

It has been quite some time since I posted an update, but wanted to share some of the recent encouraging news for dad, since so many of you have followed along his journey.

Dad has stayed out of the hospital and the emergency room for almost two months now! Over this time he is gaining strength and his mobility is improving. He has graduated from in home PT, and just has in home nursing visits.

He has a really great primary care provider keeping tabs on his day to day health and labs. He's had lots of blood count issues and medication tweaking, and we are so grateful for how close things are being monitored and the adjustments that have been made. All the appointments and pokes are worth it to make progress.

In addition he sees an infectious disease Dr. helping to treat his fungal infection (blastomycosis). His infection levels are almost undetectable at this point, and we found out today that the masses in his lungs have shrunk in size on his CT scan. This make us believe those masses were related to the fungal infection and should continue to improve with his antifungal medication. This is such encouraging news!

He had a recent invasive echo and his cardiac function has also improved considerably. All my parents effort watching sodium and diet as well as continuing to work on mobility and activity have really helped. This extended warm fall means lots of walks outside each day.

My dad's kidneys continue to heal as well and his labs are stable.

We could not be more thrilled about the stability, recovery and healing that has occurred over past couple of months. Most providers cannot believe what he has all been through, and are equally in awe of how well he is doing now.

He often says he doesn't have a choice, but he and my mom have worked very hard to keep him as healthy as possible and do all the things they can do to help him get stronger each day.

They also found a new twin home in Sun Prairie that they are purchasing and moving into in early November. This is an exciting step to transition from the apartment to a permanent home.

We have so much to be grateful for and truly believe your prayers, love, and support helped get my dad to this point. We pray for continued healing and strength, and hopefully my dad is in a boat fishing come Spring:)
