Jan’s Story

Site created on July 23, 2023

Welcome Friends and Family. Jan wanted to start this site to easily keep everyone updated as she embarks on her cancer journey. We have been texting to keep people updated but feel this is a better solution. Her symptoms started in late May with fatigue and fever and they finally found a liver abscess. Once that was cleared, they found blocked bile ducts, and the procedure to clear those revealed a tumor. Unfortunately, Jan received a diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma on July 20th, 2023. This is also known as bile duct cancer. We are still navigating the treatment plan but it seems to be that it will start with chemotherapy that will be followed with surgery to remove part of the affected portion of the liver. We have an appointment with an oncologist in Dallas as well as a referral to a doctor at MD Anderson in Houston, so we are seeking the best course of action. We will update this site as often as we can so everyone has the latest information. We all appreciate your prayers, love, support and words of hope and encouragement as we navigate this new reality.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jan Mills

This week’s news..  met with radiation doctor at MDA and loved her!  She has a plan but Houston Methodist will have to weigh in because sometimes they don’t want it before a transplant.
Today I met with Houston Methodist doctor who I also loved! She said there was nothing on the
Scans that she saw that would prevent me from being evaluated further!  SO.. she is going to send information to my insurance company to see if they will approve me coming for an evaluation.  This usually takes a week or so. :(. Then I will go down for two days of testing and learn more about what it will all involve. Let’s hope I pass these tests better than the last one! She said she wanted to hold off on radiation for now and then later we will consider possible chemotherapy during the wait.

I promise to keep you posted when I know more. This seems to be just dragging!  But we have a positive path to try to go down so I am grateful. Until then, I plan to golf and enjoy each and every day I feel good.

Much love,
Jan
