Heather’s Story

Site created on December 12, 2023

In early December, an alarmingly large mass was found on Heather's right ovary. She was admitted to UCSF on December 24th. She had a full abdominal hysterectomy to remove all suspicious tissue. While in the hospital they discovered that she also had throat cancer. Biopsy results showed that Heather has high-grade serous carcinoma in her ovary (stage 2A) and keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma in her throat. She had two additional surgeries to remove the throat cancer. She returned home on December 21st, the Winter Solstice. She started chemotherapy on January 18th and as of March 6th she reached the halfway point in her current chemotherapy treatment plan. Please hold space for Heather and keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She needs to be surrounded by love to keep her strong.  Please donate what you can to her GoFundMe or Venmo to support her during her home recovery.
Thank you for all your love and support!

Heather completed another round of chemotherapy on April 17th. Her friend Brenna took her to UCSF, and they had great talks about personal growth, trusting the strength of their talents, and collaborating to better the world around them. We are so grateful for Brenna; these conversations are an inspiration to all of us. I am so impressed with Heather's strength and fortitude!

Heather has been resting and is fatigued, has numbness in her fingers and her toes, and has crushing bone pain mainly in her legs. These unfortunate side effects can subside a little with time, but it is extremely draining for her. Your continual support brings her much solace. Special shout-outs to Molly for the matzah ball soup that hit the spot, Mom and William's extraordinary support with special goodie bags, and Lucy, Heather's loyal doggy (dragon seal) companion.

We are looking forward to the last scheduled chemotherapy appointment on May 8th. However, there is still a lot to be discovered and she will need continued care to support her whole metaphysical being as she recovers post-chemo. We cannot thank you enough for all of your support! We are sending so much love to Heather's amazing support team.

With love and gratitude,
Maya
