Heathers Post: 6 months since transplant...wow. Monday we received the news that the chimerism test shows 100% donor across the board, Dr. R was pulling these results up right in the exam room so there’s the lovely long pause where you hold your breath and wait for the computer. His face lit up as he saw the results and said “Excellent!”. This word has a million times more meaning coming from this guy!! He’s super close to kicking me out of his clinic and back in Dr. Helmer’s hands. I’ll gladly give up my spot at the transplant clinic! My overall health is good, still receiving the chemo shot every month which keeps me from eating a lot all at once and still tired every once in a while where I just have to nap. Labs aren’t perfect yet but good enough to keep us happy. I stop the prograf next week (this is huge) along with some supplements I had to take that go with the prograf and this will leave me with only one prescription left, the antiviral. Huge! Huge! Huge! We will just pray that no chronic GVHD shows up but I have high hopes:).

I met a man this week in the waiting room that had just spent his first night at home after being in the hospital for a month. He still had that look in his eyes of “what in the hell just happened to me”. It’s made me realize I need to get into a support group because I just wanted to hold his hand and let him be afraid but not alone. That’s next on my agenda for sure. Thank you all for keeping up with me and my family, I think of your support daily. We are all still recovering from this ourselves but will always be grateful for YOU and your precious prayers.

My prayer request right now are for those unceasing caregivers who are dealt this heavy blow, sometimes more than once, and also to the patients in Austin right now in hospitals who have no running water due to the floods.

God Bless.
