Dad was unhooking the forks from the tractor so that he could put on the front end loader to get chicken litter for the garden. He was standing beside the tractor reaching across to the other side to push a lever and bumped the clutch lever causing the tractor to go into gear. The rear tire knocked him over and the tractor rolled over his head, neck and chest/upper back. The steps caught his left arm causing skin tears. Thankfully his fall was cushioned by leftover scattered hay. Tractor rolled through the fence ( thank you Nate) for fixing it! and continued to roll till it hit a tree and stalled. Mom happened to be watching out the window and saw it happen. She went running out followed by Khoul who was dialing 911. Proud of your effort kiddo! Mom and dad had some friends from out of town visiting (David and Shirley Stoll) Thanks to David for already having 911 on the line and getting the address from mom. Big shout out to the amazing work of the paramedics and fire departments. Blessed enough to have some dear friends on the teams. Rachel, Katie, Mike, Makala and Khoul all headed to the hospital asap as well ...we were all met at the hospital my Manny neighbors and church friends that waited outside watching the eclipse and waiting for updates..... Ya'll are appreciated more than you know. CT showed multiple fractured ribs..multiple thoracic spine fracture. Due to the level of trauma, he was transferred to Medical City of Plano. I (Katie) and Mike went to the house and grabbed clothes and needed things for mom and dad and their car while Steve and Reva Yoder took mom and followed the Ambulance to Plano. Thanks again. Rachel and I and the kids took mom's car to Plano so she will have a vehicle here and Mike came and spent some time and picked us up. A big thanks to Jeff and Norma Jean Unruh for staying with mom and dad till dad got a room in ICU and then up here early this morning to be with mom till we were able to.get up here. ER update from Plano, CT scan shows T3, T4 fracture and T5 ligament tear. This will require surgery. This surgery is scheduled for 11pm Tonight. 4-9-2024. He also has a stretched ligament in his neck. which requires him to wear a C-collar for 2 weeks at least. Dad says he has remained quite comfortable from meds and pain being controlled since being in ICU. Continued prayers appreciated.

Newest Update

Journal entry by LaDonna Koehn

It's been a few days since I've updated y'all.  Harley continues to improve in strength.  His voice has returned to normal.   He has hit another snag though and that is he re-injured a couple ribs in the process of being assisted getting up.  They use  a wide safety belt to assist getting up.  It fastens around his chest and they grab it to assist. It puts a pressure on his ribs.  He can't help much because all he can use is his left arm. The right arm has the clavicle fracture. His right leg is in the splint.  But he is valiantly getting up anyway.  Coughing is again painful so they put a pain patch over the area where it hurts.

The food here isn't home cooking so Katie and I try to bring him something once in a while.  Today it's pouring down rain so I brought him some potato soup. He says there is no therapy the rest of the weekend so  visiting hours can be anytime.please continue to pray.
