On Monday evening I brought my mom to the ER at United Hospital because she wasn't feeling well and wasn't herself. We were there for 8 hours before getting a room in the ER. They did an MRI and a CT scan. They found fissures on her brain and nodules in her lungs that led the doctor to believe that she has cancer. They put her on steroids to reduce the swelling in her brain which made her agitated and aggressive so she had to be restrained and put on sedatives. The second night she was there she had a seizure and they hooked her up to all kinds of wires to monitor her brain and she did not have any other seizures after that. They did a biopsy of her liver to determine where the cancer started and what type it was. We got the results back and it was lung cancer that had spread to her brain. She's not in any pain but the cancer is pretty bad so we decided that radiation would be too hard on her and also we felt that she would not want the treatment.  She is now in the ICU getting comfort care. We have put in a referral for hospice and should know more on Monday.

Gloria Jean Peterson (Murphy), age 72, passed away September 22, 2023 peacefully with her daughter by her side at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Care Center. Cancer took her life too soon.
Gloria was born November 22, 1950 to John and Leona Murphy. She grew up in St Paul's Frogtown neighborhood with her sisters and brother. She married to  Arnold Peterson Jr, May 1, 1968.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son Jeffery Peterson. She is survived by her  sisters Ann Murphy and Mary Murphy, brother Patrick (Christine) Murphy, her daughter Christine Bennett, grandchildren Erin Bennett, Benny Bennett, Brittney Andersen and her mother Joy,  as well as many other loving family and friends. 
Celebration of life for Gloria and her sister Ann to be held October 25, 2023
