Journal
Hi all! It is past time for a Fran update, so here you go:
Mom did great on her treatments here in Beaufort for about a year and a half. Sometime right before Christmas, we found out that she had stopped responding to that treatment, and her cancer had spread to both her spine and her brain.
She was sent once again to Dr. Wrangle, the oncologist at MUSC who tried to get her into his trial back in 2022. Thankfully Dr. Wrangle was determined to get her into his trial this go-round since she was locked out at the last minute back in 2022, and the Lord opened all the doors that needed to be opened to make it happen. Mom started the trial on December 27th.
This trial is an oral medication that she takes twice a day. Every 21 days she goes back to MUSC to get a new round of pills and have a bunch of tests to see how the treatment is working. The last round of scans has shown good news and bad news. The good news is the cancer in the lung is stable, but the bad news is that there are now more lesions on her brain. Mom will have a gamma knife procedure to target these brain lesions on May 15th. She will have to stop taking the trial medication for probably 3 days before and 3 days after the gamma knife procedure.
Please pray with us that this setback will not result in Mom being kicked out of the trial. Dr. Wrangle has had success with this trial, and we are praying that Mom will be one of his success stories. Please also pray for the success of the gamma knife procedure on the 15th.
We are holding on to the fact that none of this comes as a surprise to God; He knows Mom's entire future and has a plan and a purpose for our Franny. She had someone praying over her recently who said "You are going to have a story to tell," and we just pray that story is full of good news!
