I had my bone marrow biopsy and spinal tap on Monday. When they did the spinal tap they injected some chemo into my spinal fluid in case there were any cancer cells in there to avoid going in a second time. By God's grace, both my spinal fluid and my bone marrow are clear of cancer cells! I am back in remission.
I'm in the hospital now getting a consolidation/maintenance round of chemo. I was hoping to get an update out earlier, but I've been feeling really rotten this round. After the spinal tap I developed a spinal headache. Women sometimes get this after having an epidural during childbirth. That was giving me bad headaches and nausea/vomiting until they put in a blood patch yesterday. I'm feeling a lot better today, except for the nausea.
The plan is to go ahead with the bone marrow/stem cell transplant once everything is ready to go - possibly in 6 to 8 weeks. Until then I'll do more rounds of maintenance chemotherapy, and then a round of heavy hitting chemo to wipe out my own stem cells before the transplant. There's more to share about the transplant, and more to pray about, but I'll write about it in another update soon. Please be asking for mercy and grace, for strength, and that I'd remain free from complications leading up to, through, and after the transplant. Also ask for grace and peace for Melissa and the kids as we walk through this process.
