Lars, Elsie, and I welcomed Alma Rose Gilyard into our family on May 7th at 7:17am. Weighing 6lb 2oz, she is a little peanut and we are so grateful to be home with her and are enjoying all the newborn snuggles. Elsie is beyond sweet with her “baby Alma” and loves her so much. Unfortunately, she and Lars have been battling a cold this last week so we’ve been keeping them away from Alma until they’re feeling better… they both seem to be on the mend, so hopefully our home quarantine is ending soon.
In true Gilyard fashion both of these girls have been keeping us on our toes, too. Right before Alma was born Elsie’s incision started to bleed (quite heavily) right at the beginning of bedtime for two nights in a row. Although it was scary (and pretty shocking to see on the monitor), we were able to speak to the on call neurosurgeon and got an appointment early Monday morning (the day before my c-section). Thankfully, everything looked good and the bleeding was (they think) a result of the skin healing and scabbing. We started a new wound care routine and it has seemingly done much better since then.
We also had a late night ER trip with Alma at the recommendation of the on call nurse at her pediatrician’s office last week. Alma had vomited bile a few times that evening, which is something Elsie had done, too, so I decided to call to “relieve some of my anxiety” only for them to recommend an ER trip. After an ultrasound cleared her of the things that would be cause vomiting bile that would be serious and require surgery, we finally got home around 4am. We aren’t sure what caused the vomiting… the ER doctor recommended holding her upright for about 20 minutes after she eats which has seemed to help.
We don’t have a lot else going on over here! Just settling into life as a family of 4 and enjoying as much of Lars’s paternity leave as possible 🤍
