Journal entry by Kathy White

Well - it has been a rollercoaster here trying to find somewhere for Mrs. White to go.  We had originally hoped to bring her home, but after talking with Lee's brothers and looking at all that would have to be done, plus the incredible cost of private nursing care, we decided to find a long-term care facility.

We thought we had found the perfect place in Sunrise North Hills, but after the nurse did the assessment, they thought she needed more skilled care than they could provide.  Back to the drawing board.

There were only 3 facilities that we would even consider in Raleigh - Rex in Apex, The Oaks at Mayview and Hillcrest.  Rex in Apex has no room.  The Oaks at Mayview is in an incredibly old building.  It was clean and smelled fine, but very institutional.  The positive side - a private room and the cost was more reasonable and the care got good reviews.  Hillcrest is MUCH more expensive and only has semi-private rooms but the decor is much nicer and the reviews seem to be good.

Mrs. White is set to be discharged on Friday so we had to make a decision quickly.  The admissions director at Mayview has been out the past two days and was not returning calls.  They did not currently have a room, but hoped to have one available on Friday.  Hillcrest currently has room, so...... Hillcrest it is!

I don't envy anyone having to go through this process.  It has been more than frustrating and exhausting.  Having to retell Mrs. White's story over and over has been difficult.  It just continues to remind us how much she has changed in such a short amount of time.

We are very grateful that she had the foresight to purchase a Long-term care insurance plan several years ago.  This will help tremendously with the exorbitant costs of long term care.

As soon as Mrs. White is settled I will send her address.  She loves having visitors and getting mail.

Thank you again for your calls, texts, cards, visits and prayers.  We appreciate you all so much.
