Journal entry by Shelli Hendricks —
It is with great sadness that I share the news of my mother’s sudden passing.
On Wednesday, March 6th, Donna finished recording a video for one of her upcoming quilting classes, then called her husband, Jim, in to help her, reporting a severe headache and nausea, then limited consciousness.
Emergency services were promptly contacted, and she was whisked away to the nearest hospital. The physicians told us she experienced a ruptured aneurysm and went into a coma, likely quickly and with limited pain or suffering. Since she had seemed to be in good health, she had no reason to request a CT scan, which would have been the only way to detect it in advance.
She remained on life support overnight for observation, and passed on Thursday, according to her wishes, as expressed in her advanced directives. We are grateful to have been by her side to surround her with love and prayer as she made her transition.
While her family continue to process our loss, we recognize she had a tremendous global community in the quilting world. We do plan to hold a virtual memorial service, so friends and family around the world may participate in celebrating her life and legacy.
Please post your favorite photos and memories of her here, and we will share details of her celebration as they unfold.
