D. M. Rusty’s Story

Site created on October 4, 2022

A message from Rusty:
“About noon on Saturday 10/1, I experienced stroke symptoms, slurred speech and numbness. I drove myself from the ranch in Mount Vernon to Mount Pleasant emergency room. I was care flighted to Tyler medical center. I am now at Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago. I have a massive brain tumor. I met with my surgeon on Monday 10/3 and I am having surgery to remove the tumor on Tuesday 10/4 afternoon.”

From the first moment that we were able to FaceTime with him while he was in Mt. Pleasant, he said “I am not afraid. I am not alone. I’m resting in the arms of the Almighty”.

We continue to rest in God’s steadfast love as a family.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Heather Russo

Hello to our Family and Friends,

We are once again amazed and thankful to share that Dad had another “clean” MRI scan yesterday. God has given us even more time than we initially expected and we are so thankful.

While we are so grateful for this news, the oncologist emphasized that they do still expect a recurrence, and that recurrence can be more aggressive and resistant to treatment. For this reason they will continue to monitor with MRI scans every eight weeks.

The frequency and intensity of ongoing headaches continues to be about the same, but they are manageable. Dad also continues to get around pretty well, and walking still requires the use of the cane.

We would like to share this verse that has been on our hearts:  “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.”  (2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT)

We continue to know that all of our lives are in God’s hands. Our next update will be in May. We are so aware of and thankful for all of your love and prayers and support.
