Debbie’s Story

Site created on October 19, 2022

My journey started 6 years ago, in December 2016, when I was diagnosed with Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma.  I went through chemotherapy from January until June 2017--achieving remission! I continued to go for my PET scans frequently to make sure the Lymphoma did not return.

Recently, in June 2022, at the 5-year remission mark, I was told that a tumor near my heart had grown quickly. Luckily my incredible doctors were proactive and went in for surgery to remove the mass completely in July.  Unfortunately, we were told that the mass was malignant (cancerous).

At the recommendation of my Oncologist, I was sent for a consultation at Georgia Blood and Marrow Transplant Group. I have had 2 rounds of chemo so far and am currently undergoing injections and other tests before the next steps. On November 8th, I will be entering Northside Hospital for more rounds of intensive chemo, followed by a Stem Cell Transplant on November 14th, to hopefully cure the reoccurring Hodgkins Lymphoma. This transplant will take my immune system back to 0, which is considered your new "birthday." The treatment has a very high success rate for permanent remission, so we are focusing on that!

I know it will be a tough journey, but I can get through this with the incredible support system that I have from my family, work family, and friends.

Please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers.

My daughter, Hannah, will continue to update everyone as we can on here, so follow for more information.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Hannah Weber

We hope everyone had a happy holidays and a great new year so far!! There has not been too much to update recently.

Today is day 52 post stem cell transplant. 48 days to go until the exciting day 100 mark 🎉
This is the “big appointment” when she should be cleared to be back in public spaces and back to a semi-normal routine. Then she can begin all immunizations that will be needed moving forward.

She did have a doctors appointment yesterday with the oncologist. Her numbers are not where they should be yet, which is also expected at this point.

After Christmas she went back to her house and actually began working remote part time yesterday. (She argued with the doctors to go back to work early to keep busy and get her brain going). She still hasn’t been officially cleared to drive —although the doctor said short distances for pick up orders are fine if she feels up to it.

As always, we appreciate your continued support, cards, and messages!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
