Claire’s Story

Site created on April 19, 2023

Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma) on April 14, 2023 after discovering a lump in March. Since then, her fabulous team of Doctors and Nurses have moved quickly to determine the cancer does not seem to have spread beyond the tumor and a few lymph nodes. Chemo will be the first step, likely followed by surgery of some kind, and then radiation. It’s going to be a long road, but Claire is strong and believes with so much support she’s sure to beat this!

Claire is the first person to be there when a friend needs anything. Now it is our turn to be there for her. Please help us by signing up to attend a chemo session, bringing a meal or just leaving a note of support! Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Claire Hagedorn

Today I had follow up appointments with both my radiation oncologist and my regular oncologist. Although I have developed some burns on my chest since radiation ended (which are NOT comfortable 😜) the oncologist assured me that they are totally normal and actually look “really good”, all things considered. Who knew?! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

After that I saw the Oncologist who went over the next steps in the process which are centered on meds, shots, and infusions targeted at preventing cancer recurrence in the future. We also discussed lifestyle things I can do to help decrease the risk of recurrence, so I’ll obviously be doing all I can in that area also! ☺️ I will be starting daily oral meds and a monthly shot that are going to stop my production of estrogen (bc my tumor was estrogen and progesterone fed) and will put me into menopause - with all the potential side effects that comes with - fun fun 😉. I will also be getting infusions every six months to help keep up my bone density as the estrogen reducing meds can reduce your bone strength, and this bone med has also need shown to reduce recurrence - so hey, the more the merrier! 😜 My Oncologist says I’ll be on the hormone blockers for at least 5 years, maybe 10, so the journey will be long, but it will be worth it to avoid recurrence ☺️

The best part of today was that my Oncologist said that as of today, there is NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!!! After almost ten months of treatment, innumerable doctor visits, chemo, surgery, radiation, and so much more - there is no indication I have cancer! I’ve won! And I believe, and choose to speak into existence, that it will not return! 🩷

Thank you to everyone that has supported me on this journey. I truly have felt so loved and held during this time, and continue to felt that way. I’ll never be able to fully express my gratitude, but please know, I’ll be forever grateful. Please keep sending me the good vibes - I definitely will still take them 😉🥰

Love to you all,
Claire
