Journal entry by Chuck D'Agostino —
Many thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes! I was pleasantly surprised by the number of greetings from my fellow McQuaid alumni. Thanks, guys!
I've just returned from Geneva where I spent the evening of my 70th birthday attending a Relay for Life meeting. One of my fellow captains noted that I ended my 10 year streak as a one-man team when my brother Mike joined. He got his first purple t-shirt this year. I reminded them that while I've been a one-man team, I was always among the teams with the most visitors. Even the year with the microburst I had a bunch of visitors. As I said in my last few entries, support is a wonderful thing.
Laurel and I celebrate birthdays and anniversaries by taking each other out to dinner. We usually go to relatively casual places but there are certain restaurants that we save for milestones. One of the problems of reaching 70 is dealing with the passage of time. Unfortunately, over the years most of our milestone restaurants have closed. The place we had our first date, the place I proposed, the sites of our rehearsal dinner and reception, the places where we celebrated our 10th, 20th and 30th anniversaries, the places where I celebrated my 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays are all gone. We still enjoy "auditioning" restaurants to replace those places on our milestones roster.
Again, thanks everyone!
