Cheri’s Story

Site created on March 8, 2018

Our amazing mother, Cheri ONeill was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma on 3/5/2018. We are using this site to easily update friends and family on her condition. We cannot express how much it means to have a loving community offering thoughts, prayers, and encouragement.

We are so thankful for all of you offering support in different ways. Please note that the tribute section on this website that asks for a donation goes to the CaringBridge company and not to us.

March 5th is a day I will never forget!!

Today is SIX years since my loving doctor (Dr Anita Jonason) gave me the devastating news I had Lung Cancer. It’s one of those things you remember every detail of.

It’s a crazy way to live….. knowing you are dying…. We live 3 months to 3 months to 3 months … We exhale as we leave our appointments and go do life… we inhale and hold our breath as we go to the next appointment and the  exhale … until one day we don’t.

So it’s finding a way to live in this  craziness that has JOY & PURPOSE & FUN that I try to do! I am so very thankful for my family and friends who are always there for me!! I honestly couldn’t do this without you! THANK YOU!!!!

My appointments just happen to be today on this date March 5. Six years in to this I have had progression twice most recently this last August. I switched to Lorlatinib which is the last FDA approved oral chemo for me. It has come with a host of side effects, most recently my hair falling out😳!   BUT after meeting with my oncologist today he said there is “No evidence of intracranial metastasis. Resolved abnormal leptomeningeal enhancement in the cerebellum” Whoohoo!! I have a small  pleural effusion that he believes will continue to get better. They did find an enlarging cystic lesion  measuring 3.5 cm, previously 2.4 cm on my abdomen scan but I will get an ultrasound in 3 months and see what that is about.

I am so very thankful for a loving and healing God who answers our prayers, for  great health care, good insurance, an amazing online AlK Positive support group where I learn so much  and meet so many courageous humans and for YOU my dear friends! Thank you for  praying for me, and  for loving me so well!!! I appreciate you so very much and know that God hears and cares and answers our prayers!!  May He bless you BIG in return!
