Sign In to Show Your SupportNo news is good news, which is why it has been over one month since I last wrote an update. Well, here I am about to share some things that have happened with our dear Cheri and her lovely family, Todd and Wyatt, over the last month.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE FAMILY PETS
Sadly, the Axel's cats, Walter and Bert, had to be put down. Then, a few weeks later, Rocky, the beloved English Lab aged 10, was diagnosed with cancer. He quickly declined. It was devastating, and he was put down. Any animal lover knows the grief losing a pet can cause. They are part of the family, and this family has had more than their fair share of difficult times to deal with, so it was deplorable to lose all three of the family pets in such a short time.
On a good note, Ruby joined the family and is terrific. Ruby is a gentle Aussie who could be a therapy dog. She settled in immediately and joined the family on a road trip to ND this Memorial weekend.
CANCER & TREATMENT
Cheri felt a lump in her chest that was accompanied by swelling. After a PET scan and some blood tests, it was determined the cancer had spread again. At first, Cheri was sorrowful and hopeless, but I want you to know she is reinspired to push forward. Cheri said she feels strong and energetic and will keep pressing on. Cheri will begin a new treatment that will be delivered through her port. The first infusion will be delivered next week on Tuesday. She will go in every three weeks for the infusion treatment. Cheri's oncologist is seeking guidance from Mayo regarding clinical trials that could be paired with infusion therapy.
Thankfully, the cancer has not spread to any of Cheri's organs. Her oncologist said there are additional treatment options available. Cheri said, "I was feeling scared and upset, but now I feel like I am in fight mode. When the meds are no longer effective, I will switch meds." Friends, although there is currently no cure for Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer, our dear Cheri still has treatment options available.
Thank you for stopping by. Please remember you can send Cheri messages on this website. She loves to hear from you, and it gives her strength to be reminded she is not alone in this journey.
Love,
Maria
