Carter Freeman’s Story

Site created on October 13, 2023

After 25 years of amazing health, Carter’s kidney (His brother Doug’s) is nearing the end of the line. You all know Carter is a kidney recipient…twice. In 1996 he received the most amazing gift of life - a kidney - from his mom. Unfortunately, and inexplicably, he rejected her kidney 2 years later. Then in 1998 Doug gave him one of his kidneys and EVERY SINGLE DAY since then has been a blessing!! Though Carter’s kidney function is “on fumes”, he continues to live life to the fullest. Despite the fatigue, seeing himself as sick just isn’t in his DNA J! His ability to stay positive and just persevere has made all the difference in living a great, healthy life with the incredible gifts of the kidneys he’s received.

Over the past 2 years, many of Carter’s friends and family have selflessly gone through the screening process to donate a kidney. Several months ago, his great friend of nearly 45 years, Bill Boscow, was approved as a great match! We are SO thankful for and in awe of Bill (and Kim!). By making such a selfless and loving sacrifice, Bill is giving Carter the most amazing gift…the gift of life.

We so appreciate your support and prayers for Bill and Carter.

Journal entry by Jill Freeman

Hi All,

I want to express personally how much I appreciate and was picked up by your prayers and well-wishes. This past week has been an incredible journey for both me and Bill. He is the real story here. Even before the transplant he went through many rounds of testing, poking and scanning, much of which required travel from his home in Chicago. And then to lay down and make the sacrifice, the gift of life...it's hard for me to fully process the love and selflessness that requires. Now we are both recovering, moving a bit slow but making progress every day. I'm thrilled to report that my kidney numbers are GREAT! What a blessing to feel energy and health returning, and to feel optimistic about the future.
From here it's recovery mode. I am so thankful for my family and friends, and grateful of the care you showed for both me and Bill (and our families) these last several days.

Love,
Carter
