Journal entry by James Giffi

Carol Giffi, Brighton, NY

Carol passed away on November 2 at age 71. Carol Giffi lived in Rochester, NY her entire life.  Her life was taken far too soon by ALS. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jim Giffi; her daughters Caron (Matt) Lindstrom and Cathy (Chuck) Caruso.  She also has two adoring grandchildren, Tessa and Gus Lindstrom.

Carol graduated from the University of Rochester with two Master’s Degrees in women’s health care.  She adored her role as a Labor and Delivery Nurse Practitioner. She spent over forty years working in women’s health care.

Carol was an avid volunteer working tirelessly to make the world a better place.  She knitted hats and booties for newborns and made quilts for cancer patients. For years she taught childbirth classes, workshops for breast cancer patients, and volunteered at a domestic violence shelter.  While this may seem like a tremendous amount, this is only some of her volunteer work. She enjoyed working amongst her community members who quickly became friends. Most recently, she spent time working at the Brighton Food Cupboard.

She was always dedicated to a healthy lifestyle, which included Deb McVean Aerobics and taking many walks with Jim. She has a loving community of friends, including her “Prayer  Posse” who support members of all faiths.

She loved art museums, Yankees baseball, travel, and she was a lefty when it came to politics. Most of all, she loved time with her family.

There will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Association or the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
