Newest Update

Journal entry by Carla Pheasant

This is Jeff posting for Carla. Sorry for so long of update describing our eollercoaster journey. Her last post in Oct we were going to Tijuana Mexico on Oct 8th to do radiation. When we got there we met with doctors who want her to do low dose chemo instead but the week leading up to getting there Carla started to feel bad with liver pain and fevers. We were trying to address her not feeling well while getting setup for chemo. She did 1 chemo on Friday Oct 13 and felt good but by Monday She went back to feeling week and was anemic so the checked her into a hospital bed at the facility vs our temporary  apt and I stayed in a bed in her room next to her. We spent the next 9 days in that room with Carla getting many IVs per day for liver, antibiotics, pain, and fluid trying to fix  what they thought was an infection causing pain, weakness, fever, high liver counts, low blood pressure and cold sweats. When we were suppose to do another chemo, Carla had another temp and they decided not to do it so  I decided that if they can’t do the chemo then we need to go to San Diego to figure out what is going on. She was transferred by ambulance on Oct 24th where we spent 9 days in Chula Vista hospital. I had a couch to sleep on next to her. They continued many IVs and tests trying to find an infection and finding her with severe pneumonia. They pulled  almost 2 liters from her side. They also informed me that her cancer in her lungs had gotten worse. I had family come down to support us. We thought we would try and drive her home laying down in back of van or pay for a medical plane to fly her directly home. She slowly got better and her infection numbers improved  and I new I had a chance to get her home on commercial flight and took it even if hospital wanted me to stay longer but I knew I had to get Carla home.
After a horrific flight home, we finally made it and I about collapsed. She still had issues at home of severe diarrhea from being on antibiotics for 3 straight weeks. We met with oncologist in wenatchee ready to do chemo here but that was not her plan. She would put Carla on a cancer pill that took 3 weeks to get approved and started on. She would also do radiations on her breast since the tumor had become an open fungating wound over the last month. We started Radiation and did 11 on her breast. We also ended up in emergency room and pulled another 1.5 liters of fluid out of her side then 3 days later pulled another 1.4 then 5 days later removed .45 liter before thanksgiving. The next Friday we went to hospital and they put a drain/ catheter  in her side but only pulled .21 liters. That same day they wanted us to  the eye doctor in the hospital after her procedure because Carla had been complaining about eye sight getting worse. After a few hours of eye tests and scans the eye doctor informed us that Carla had a tumor blocking vision on left retina and another tumor on right eye that was not blocking her eye sight yet. Monday’s radiation they set up scans to do radiation on Carla’s eye. They also then set up a MRI on her head. We got called later that day(Wednesday Dec 6th) that Carla would start radiation on her eyes on Thursday but also do radiation on her brain because they found many tumors on her brain. I talked with Doctor today that says her cancer development was one of the more aggressive that he sees. She will do 5 radiation days on her eyes and head. Carla was lifting weights and walking Beazley in Sept but is now weak and not able to walk much distance without wheelchair. In picture on beach Sept 29 still healthy weighing closer to 127 but now is down to 107.  We have had the blessing of many friends and family loving upon her as she is in this difficult journey. Our goal each day is to find bliss in the world around us that God has provided. So much love has poured out and into our lives.

Please continue to pray for Carla  and my family.
Other pictures are Carla giving a thumbs up to go home from San Diego hospital, friends surprising and loving on her, and getting a Thanksgiving photo
