Bryan’s Story

Site created on March 11, 2024

Hi All -

Thank you for all the texts, calls, prayers and support. Here a quick update on the last 5 days:

Bryan has been feeling poorly for about a month. After some good investigative work by his team of doctors, it became apparent that we were dealing with something very serious. A CT scan on March 7th confirmed our worst fear - possible metastatic pancreatic cancer.

He had a biopsy on March 9th and then was released to go home. Later that night he started dealing with extreme pain and eventually traveled by ambulance back to Integris ER, where the biopsy had been performed early in the afternoon.

After many hours in the ER they discovered that his liver was bleeding as a result of the biopsy, which we had been told was a risk. They took him straight up to ICU and then to IR to repair the bleed.

He was in the ICU thru March 12th, and then moved into a general hospital room until March 14th. See below for more updates.

We're going on a trip.....

And little farther than the gate this time!
About a year ago, Bryan and I and some friends planned a beach vacation.  Little did we know, Bryan would have cancer, be 1 round into chemotherapy and wondering if we would be able to go on this trip.  After he started chemo, we were told that every cycle Bryan would get a week off from treatment. As I began to count the days it looked as if the week off would be the week of the trip. House reserved and paid for, plane tickets the whole shebang already reserved. I asked our doc and the nurse who handles the schedule if she thought there would be any way we would be able go on this trip.  She said, absolutely! Go on your trip and have a wonderful time! So we began praying that Bryan would be strong enough to travel.  Tonight I can report that he is feeling better.  His appetite is creeping ever so slowly back and he has rebounded from the effects of the chemo and Zarxio injections. Now you'll know when you don't see a post for a week or so, we're sitting at the beach with our toes in the water!
Today as I was driving him to get his shot he started whistling to the song on the radio...If you've spent much time with Bryan, you probably know he is a whistler.  Well, I haven't heard that in a couple of months and when I did, I said to myself, "He's back!"

Brave shave
Last night, Tyler (our son in law) came over with his clippers to get rid of what was left of Bryan's hair! It was falling out in handfuls so Bryan decided it was time. I'll attach a picture of the event 😉

How can you pray for us this coming week?
Pray for our travel to be uneventful. You know what I mean I am sure!

Pray for Bryan's health and stamina.  He will rest all he wants and I've scheduled a nurse to come give him fluids a few times during the week right at the house.
Pray that he feels well and that we can both relax and enjoy the time away (and forget about cancer!)
