Newest Update

Journal entry by Danyelle Avera

A week ago today mom went and had her 4th chemotherapy & immunotherapy treatment. All of her bloodwork looked good & Dr. Gian was impressed with how well things are going so far when she went to her apt with him the week prior to her treatments. She asked him if that meant she could stop coming, but he told her very quickly that it in fact did NOT mean she was finished with him yet! LOL

A small update on happenings since my last post : Mom had an appointment with her surgeon (Dr. Horowitz) to talk about the double mastectomy and Lymphadenectomy  that he will be performing sometime in July. She did find out at that appointment that the plastic surgeon we really hoped to be able to use would not be able to do her reconstruction due to him cutting back on surgeries. If she were to insist on using him like we had planned then it would push her surgeries out for months which would in turn push out the radiation treatments she had to have post surgery.  As you can imagine mom is more than ready to get all of this behind her and be well again so at this point I think she would let anyone perform surgery if they had the right equipment! The plastic surgeon that will be joining Dr. Horowitz is Dr. Kent Higdon. She has an appointment with Dr. Higdon to discuss the reconstruction on May 21st. The appointment with Dr. Horowitz did tell her some things she was not expecting like the plastic surgeon change and location change for the surgery, but overall it was a good appointment for mom.

The next treatment (#5) is May 6th and until then mom could specifically use prayers for the side effects she is enduring to be minimal and manageable. We have a family vacation scheduled for the end of May/beginning of June and mom is really looking forward to that so prayers that everything stays good enough for her to be able to enjoy that trip are appreciated!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the prayers, calls, texts, notes, gifts & love that you all have shown our family over the last 4 months. It means more than any of us will ever be able to put into words!
