Kelsay’s Story

Site created on April 25, 2024

Welcome to our world, the Brohimer Twins, Isabella and Leonidas! We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you!

After years of trying to get pregnant, we finally did through IVF, on our third transfer! At 20 weeks Isabella was trying to come out, we ended up with a cerclage (a band/stitch in the cervix to hold it closed) to hold her in.

At 23 weeks our water broke, we were admitted to the hospital on L&D for the rest of our pregnancy. At 25 weeks and 5 days contractions started and progressively got worse, even with meds trying to slow them down.

4/24/24 the Brohimer Twins were born at 25 weeks and 6 days. Isabella was born at 1:11am, 1lb 9oz and Leonidas was born at 1:13am, 1lb 12oz.

Currently the twins are stable and growing in the NICU preparing for the long journey ahead of them. Our goal is to be able to take them home sometime in August.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelsay Brohimer

Update from the last few days..

Isabella is doing good!! Her labs look pretty good, hemoglobin is holding steady with that iron and her sodium is good with the supplement. She’s doing good on her feeds, she gets 18mls (0.6oz) every 3 hours, she gets her milk over 1.5 hours through her feeding tube. Izzy is still on the Vapotherm to help her breath, she’s doing really good with that. She is at 4L/per minute and at 22%oxygen.  Isabella is now in the 2lb club with Leo!!! She weighs 2lbs 1oz! Yay!!

Leonidas is doing okay! He had his third heart ECHO yesterday, 5-16-24, it showed worsening blood flow and a bigger hole/PDA. So we are getting ready to transfer to Children’s Hospital, and he is going to have a heart surgery Monday afternoon. The plan is he will be at Children’s for 1-2 weeks then transfer back to Bergan with big sissy Isabella. Leo’s Hemoglobin (red blood cell counts) are also pretty low despite doing Iron twice daily, normally they would do a blood transfusion but doing that can make his heart worse. So we started a medicine to try and stimulate his body to make more red blood cells, it’s more of a slower method and sometimes works. He may need a blood transfusion before/during surgery, we’ll see what Children’s says.

As always, thank you for all of the positive prayers, thoughts, and vibes. We love you guys.

I added a few pictures, one is of Leo giving the peace sign saying he’s got this! And one is the same size as their current blood pressure cuff, that gives an idea of how little they are!
