Surgery day!!!!  We were at the hospital at 5 this morning and back into surgery at 7.  Brett was in surgery for 4 hours, we were told 2!
I just got done talking to the dr. He said Brett handled surgery very well. That is a relief. They started the surgery laparoscopically, but they had to open him up. The dr said there was a lot of scar tissue inside his abdomen that he cleaned out.  Brett had a huge hole between two ribs on his left side, which is what caused the hernia.  The dr said his intestines and stomach had slipped in between the ribs causing the hernia. So the dr actually sewed his ribs back together. He did not use mesh like they do in a typical hernia repair. So Brett may still have a small bulge below his ribs, the bottom ribs are still broke.
So this means a long painful recovery. Dr says he needs to breathe ( which we just spent 4 weeks pushing him to do), so breathing with his ribs sown together will be painful. Also getting up out of bed, his chair and toilet will mean me pulling him up. The dr said he could easily tear that open again.
We’ll be in the hospital for the next couple days, depending on how Brett is managing his pain. Then we’ll head home.
God is good. Our first nurse this morning was a Christian and said she prays for all her pts before her shift every day. We told her that we had prayed over her and the surgery team before we left our hotel this morning. I love it when God brings His people to us when we need it most. God is good and sovereign, we trust His plan for us.  Thank you all for the prayers showered on us this morning !!
