Journal

A friend of ours died unexpectedly this last weekend. You just never know what is going to happen.

Brad was diagnosed five-plus months ago with cancer. Other than a consistent pain in his back which he attributed to his profession, we had no idea what was in store for us.

Brad’s hair is growing back, and as far as we can tell so far, it will not be dark brown anymore but a very distinguished gray. Who would have known?

Brad asked his family recently what would be the one thing we have learned over the past few months of cancer treatments, pandemic and finding a new normal. Some of our answers:

Appreciate what you have.
Look for the good in people, in every situation.
Be kind.
Be grateful.
Pray.
God is listening and watching over us.

Brad has two more radiation treatments. Two more days. The state of the world right now make us want to hide when we should be celebrating! People we meet at work, at the grocery stores and restaurants are scared, unhappy and even mean. It’s hard to think of celebrating when the world is turned upside down. But we have more time together when others do not. We have a job to go to when others do not. We have loving family and friends who pray for and watch out for us when others do not. We are blessed.

Brad has more scans, checkups, lab tests and follow-up visits planned for the next few months, repeating over the next 2-5-10 years. During that time we will be hoping cancer doesn’t return. If it does, I hope we will be able to recognize the tender mercies and blessings that have come to us.

We are grateful for your love and support. Honestly, I hope we don’t ever have to write in this blog again! But if we do, know that we know that faith in a loving Heavenly Father has seen us through this far, and will continue to do so.

We love you all and thank you for your continued love, prayers and support!

With love,

Brad and Kalynne
