We are heading home from Boone’s appointment in Augusta. Everything went really well. We saw one of the surgical PAs who agreed he was doing great and cleared Boone to return to school! He is so so excited about that. He will not be allowed any outside time or gym time, but that shouldn’t be a big problem since he only has 3 days left. 😀

After seeing the PA, we saw a physical therapist who fitted him for compression garments. These are used to restrict blood flow to the skin surface so that the skin does not grow thicker and thicker as it continues to heal. This will help reduce scarring. We have learned so much! He will wear a compression shirt (short sleeve), full compression sleeve on his left arm and compression gloves on both hands 23 hours/day. He was also given a compression chin strap that he will need to wear at night.  Again, frequent moisturizing, sun screen, and scar massage was instructed. We are to be doing this 4-6 times a day. He will need to wear wide brimmed hats if he is outside, which is not a problem as Boone actually discovered a love for big hats at the beach a couple years ago. 😊
At his follow up appointments, Boone has really enjoyed getting to know the child life specialist there and it’s been great having her there talking him/us through the visits. He has certainly kept her entertained and also on the hunt for heated blankets at each visit! We have been very happy with our time at the Augusta burn center and are so glad that he has been getting such great care by a team of true experts. Boone’s next appointment is about 2 weeks out this time and hopefully moving forward the visits will be quick in an out assessments since all is going well! Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. We truly have blessed with such a wonderful circle of support! 💜
