Avonleigh & Stella’s Story

Site created on March 5, 2022

This is a story of how 2 girls saved each other! Leukemia & prematurity are just the first two of countless events this mother/daughter team is going to ROCK!  Be sure to read the journal entries in date order to get the whole picture!

We so appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Current Needs: Prayer support!
For those that wish to do something tangible our current concerns are gas, parking, eating out as we travel to and from the hospital and formula.  In addition, while Avonleigh is hoping to be able to resume some of her schooling before her treatment ends, she will not really be able to work for the next 7 months so prayers for that situation are appreciated as she still has her own bills to pay.

UPDATE:  First of all, thank you all for your outreach of support, encouragement, and care!  We are sooo very grateful!

Let me say that your prayers for healing, perfect timing, provision, protection, strength, and salvation are THE most important!!  These things are what our hearts cry out for!!  We know that God is working all things for our good and we are waiting expectantly and excitedly to see how His plan unfolds.  He knows our needs.

The request for our address has come often so I thought this would be a good place to share it:

203 North Main Street PO Box #145 Woodsboro, MD 21798

I have had also had many people asking me if she has a registry and if we have Venmo or PayPal. They have asked me if I would post it somewhere so people could access it.  That is very hard for me to do as it feels uncomfortable to be on the receiving end of things. However, I am having a hard time keeping track of every conversation I have across the different platforms and have been encouraged to share it anyway.  Please know that we are humbled by the desires to help care for us as we travel to and from the hospital, prep our home for Stella, and take numerous days off of work to care for all the members of our growing Broadhurst clan! :-)

Again, we are MOST grateful for each one of you as you lift us up in prayer and reach out with words of encouragement and support!  We are thankful that God has blessed us so richly with so many wonderful friends over the years from so many different areas of life and life stages!  Each of you holds a special memory for us, and it warms our hearts to know you are loving us from all over the world!

Humbled and grateful! XOXOXOXO

Journal entry by Kimberly Broadhurst

I have BIG NEWS!!  STELLA IS HOME!!! After 56 days, we broke her out of the NICU yesterday (Monday)!  However, Av had us sworn to secrecy until she could surprise a couple of her friends with a visit!  We are soooo excited to all be together in our own space, but boy do I miss those nurses at night! ...it's been a LONG time since I have experienced an infant's schedule, and I'm not as resilient on limited sleep as I used to be. 😉 Regardless, we are thrilled that she is here!  She had her 1st pediatrician apt today and is 7lbs & 2oz!  Zuko has been completely enamored with her and just stares at her and whines.  It's the cutest thing!  While the dog is enthralled, the cats seem to be indifferent...am I surprised? LOL

Avonleigh started her 2nd week of outpatient infusions on 4/18.  The first day of accessing the port was painful but manageable.  She has been a trooper!! While she thankfully doesn't seem to have any physical adverse effects like nausea or vomiting, she is super tired and fighting headaches again.  ...although not nearly as bad as when she was in the hospital, so we are grateful for that!  We are praying that it continues that way!

We are trying to settle into new sleep, travel and eating routines for everyone!  It is quite the adjustment, but so worth it to have Avonleigh made healthy and Stella home!
