Ann’s Story

Site created on June 7, 2021

Ann had her annual mammogram in early April, 2021, and was referred to have a second one. She then was sent to have a biopsy, and cancer cells were found, stage 2. More tests were done, and she had a mastectomy in June, 2021. Moral of the story: don't put off your annual medical screening appointments!

Journal entry by Ann Zastrow

Two years ago yesterday, I tentatively "rang the bell" after my 25th, and last, session of radiation.

I have "graduated," and seen both the radiation oncologist and cancer surgeon for the last time. I will see the plastic surgeon every 5 years, and the medical oncologist every 6 months.

As far as I know, I remain cancer-free. I continue to find cancer mentors. Two of these amazing women have had cancer re-appear, which is always something that is possible. I try not to think about it. If that happens to me, I will deal with it, but my plan right now is to continue to live life to the fullest.
