Good morning!  

Stefanie here....it's been a couple of weeks since the last update.  We are exactly 2 months out from surgery date of May 6.  They have said the magic numbers for improvement are 3-6 months.  Things have been moving along slowly but surely with slow and steady improvements.  We keep reminding ourselves that this is a marathon - NOT a race!

Today…I am sharing the MOST HOPEFUL news!  Mom had another barium swallow test yesterday.  SHE SHOWED 50% IMPROVEMENT!!!!  Praise God!  We are all so excited!  Mom is so happy!  This is just the boost that she needed.  And, frankly, I think we all needed it almost as much.  SHE called me at work herself to tell me (we haven't talked on the phone since before the surgery, since her voice is so hoarse).  We were both 😭😭!  She will now be able to have "nectar thick water with chin tuck and coughing techniques to clear residuals".  

Mom has been working so hard going to rehab, doing her exercises, and walking.  Her balance is improving.  In fact, they are planning for her to transition to a cane soon and get rid of her walker.  I personally think she looks better each week.  Dad continues to be a trooper and remains right by her side constantly.

Her 75th birthday was on Monday, July 4.  She did not want to celebrate 🥲, but I really think she got her best gift yesterday:  HOPE!  She did love all of the flowers, messages, cards, and gifts that she received.  

Please keep the prayers coming.  They are working!  "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer".  Romans 12:12
